Installation :
1. Align White mark on flywheel or drive plate (flexplate) with pointer on block. Ensure camshaft(s) is at
TDC for No. 1 cylinder. See Fig. 1 , Fig. 2 or Fig. 3 . Install camshaft timing belt. See Fig. 6 . Align rear
timing balance shaft belt pulley by inserting a 6 x 100 mm bolt 2.9″ (74 mm) into alignment access hole.
Align groove on front balance shaft pulley with pointer on oil pump body. See Fig. 7 .
2. Adjust timing belt tension by rotating crankshaft counterclockwise until No. 1 piston is at TDC of
compression stroke. Loosen, but do not remove, timing belt adjustment bolt. Rotate crankshaft
counterclockwise 3 teeth on camshaft pulley to create tension on timing belt. Tighten adjustment bolt to
specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
3. Reverse removal procedure to complete installation. Tighten crankshaft pulley bolt to specification. See
TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Adjust drive belts to proper tension.

NOTE:

Mark the direction of rotation on the belt before removing.
Do not use the upper covers and lower cover for storing removed items.
Clean the upper covers and lower cover before installing.
Replace the camshaft seals and crankshaft seals if there is oil leakage.
Refer to crankshaft pulley before installing timing belt.
Replace the timing belt at 105,000 miles (168,000 km) according to the
maintenance schedule (normal conditions/severe conditions). If the vehicle
regularly is driven in one or more of the following conditions, replace the
timing belt at 60,000 miles (100,000 km):
In very high temperatures (over 110° 43°
F,
C).
In very low temperatures (under -20° -29°
F,
C).
Turn the crankshaft pulley so the No. 1 piston is at top dead center (TDC)
before removing the belt.
Inspect the water pump after removing the timing belt.

1. Remove the front wheels and splash shield.
2. Remove the bolts, then loosen the mount bolt and pivot the side engine
mount out of the way.
3. Loosen the idler pulley center nut and adjusting bolt, then remove the air
conditioning (A/C) compressor belt.
4. Loosen the alternator mounting bolt, nut and adjusting bolt, then remove the
alternator belt.
5. Loosen the mounting nuts and adjusting nut, then remove the power steering
(P/S) pump belt.

Installation:

1. Remove the screw from the door handle trim.

2. Slide the handle assembly forward and out to access the lock rod clip.

3. Release the clip
4. Disconnect the door lock switch
5. Remove the door opener handle assembly.
6. Carefully pry at the small opening on the bottom of the speaker grill.
7. Remove the speaker grille.
8. Remove the speaker mounting screws.
9. Detach the electrical connector and remove the speaker.
10. Remove the screws in the armrest.
11. Remove the center from the trim clip at the upper front of the door panel and remove the
clip.
12. Using a suitable trim panel removal tool, unsnap the door panel from the door frame.
13. Carefully lift the door panel up and away from the door frame.14. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove the engine undercover. Drain coolant and remove the radiator.
Remove engine cooling fan and water pump pulley. Remove accessory drive belts. Remove spark plugs.
2. Remove distributor protector. Remove A/C compressor drive belt idler bracket. Remove fresh air intake
tube from rocker cover. Remove thermostat housing hose.
3. Rotate crankshaft to set No. 1 cylinder at TDC on compression stroke. See Fig. 1 . Remove crankshaft
pulley bolt and remove crankshaft pulley. Remove front upper and lower timing belt covers. See Fig. 2 .
4. Align punch mark on left camshaft sprocket with punch mark on timing belt upper rear cover. Align
punch mark on crankshaft sprocket with notch on oil pump housing. See Fig. 3 . Install crankshaft pulley
bolt so that crankshaft can be rotated.
5. Loosen timing belt tensioner nut. See Fig. 4 . Turn tensioner, and remove timing belt.
